Buddleja x weyeriana
is a hybrid cross between B. davidii and B. globosa. The flowers
appear in round pom-pom clusters up to 25cm long and are highly
scented.
Growing to 4.5m
tall, this butterfly bush plant is best pruned back at the
end of summer / beginning of spring unless it has lots of
room to grow! Flowers appear in abundance on one season's
growth.
There are several
cultivar varieties of Buddleja x weyeriana. All are vigorous
plants, but their flower colours differ slightly:
- 'Sungold'
butterfly bush has long butterscotch-yellow flower clusters.
- 'Golden Glow'
butterfly bush has apricot-yellow flowers in more open flower
clusters.
- 'Honeycomb'
butterfly bush has paler yellow flowers
Plant all buddleia
bushes in full sun. The butterflies they attract are more
active in full sunlight and the bush will flower more prolifically
too.
