The
site's author, Paul Ashford, a photographer and landscape
planting designer from Dunedin NZ has produced this site
as a reference picture gallery for gardeners and as an image
bank of quality digital horticultural photography for the
horticulture and publishing trades.
All
plants in this horticultural image bank were happily growing
in New Zealand's gardens, parks and wild places, mostly
in the South Island.

Clianthus puniceus (kaka beak, or
kowhai ngutu kaka)
is a small sprawling shrub to 2m tall and a very distinctive
native New Zealand plant. Kaka beak flowers are bright red,
hanging in clusters in winter/spring. Flowers resemble the
now rare NZ kaka parrot.
