Rhododendron
is a large genus with over 800 species including the plants
known to gardeners as azalea. Rhododendron is a very widely
distributed genus, occurring in both the Northern and Southern
Hemispheres.
They
may be either evergreen or deciduous and are best known for
their many clusters of large trumpet-shaped flowers. Many
hybrids and garden cultivars have been bred making Rhododendrons
an extremely valuable garden plant.
